Add, Adjust, and Delete Effects in Zenious

Zenious provides a flexible and creative way to enhance your videos by adding a variety of effects. You can add effects directly through the transcript using the text-based editor or by using the Effects tab. Effects such as zoom, blur, highlight, image insertion, animated GIFs, and text annotations help you emphasize, clarify, or protect content within your video. This article covers how to add effects using both methods, adjust their timing, and delete effects when needed.

The procedures below are organized as follows:

  • Add an Effect Using the Transcript – Select transcript text to quickly add and time effects.

  • Add an Effect Using the Effects Tab – Insert effects independently of the transcript.

  • Delete an Effect – Remove unwanted effects from your video.

Each procedure is self-contained and can be used independently depending on your workflow.

Add an Effect Using the Transcript

Adding effects through the transcript is the fastest way to synchronize visual enhancements with your video’s narration. This method is ideal when you want effects to match specific spoken words or phrases.

To add an effect using the transcript

  1. Open your project in Zenious and navigate to the transcript editor.
The transcript editor displays your video’s spoken content as selectable text.

  2. Select the words or segment in the transcript where you want the effect to begin and end.
The selected text highlights, and a context menu appears.

  3. Hover over the Effects option in the context menu.
A list of available effects appears.

  4. Click the desired effect (e.g., Zoom, Blur, Highlight, etc.).
The effect is added, and its timing is set to match the selected transcript segment.
Note: The start and end times of the effect correspond to the start and end of the selected transcript text.

  5. Click the Preview button to review the effect’s timing.
The video plays, showing when the effect starts and ends.

  6. If you are satisfied with the preview, click Apply to confirm the effect.
The effect is saved and appears on the timeline.

  7. (Optional) If you want to adjust the effect’s timing, use one of the following methods:

    1. Drag the bars to change the start and end times.

    2. Use the increase or decrease buttons to fine-tune the timing.

    3. Enter the start and end times directly.

    4. Adjust the effect’s duration using the timeline controls. The effect updates to reflect your changes.

Note: You can preview the effect again after making adjustments.

  8. Once you are satisfied with the adjustments, click Apply to save the effect.
The effect is now active in your video.

Add an Effect Using the Effects Tab

The Effects tab allows you to add effects anywhere in your video. This method is useful for adding visual elements at precise moments.

To add an effect using the Effects tab

  1. Pause the video at the point where you want to add the effect.
The video pauses, and the current frame is displayed.

  2. Go to the Effects tab.
The Effects panel opens, showing all effects that you have already added.

  3. Click New to add a new effect.
The full list of effects supported by Zenious appears.

  4. Click the effect you want to add (e.g., Zoom, Blur, Highlight, Image, GIF, Text Annotation).
    The effect properties window opens.

  5. Preview the effect’s timing by clicking the Preview button.
The video plays, showing the effect’s start and end times.

  6. Adjust the effect’s timing as needed using the bars, increase/decrease buttons, or by entering times directly.
The effect updates to reflect your changes.

  7. Click Apply to save the effect.
The effect is now part of your video.

Delete an Effect

If you need to remove an effect, Zenious provides two ways to do so: from the timeline or from the Effects tab.

To delete an effect

  1. Locate the effect you want to remove on the timeline.
The effect appears as a pill or marker on the timeline.
Note: If multiple effects are added at overlapping times, the effects are stacked in the timeline and shows individual effects when you hover over the stack.

  2. Click the Delete icon on the effect’s pill.
    A confirmation prompt appears.

  3. Confirm the deletion.
The effect is removed from your video.

  4. (Optional) Alternatively, open the Effects tab to find and remove the effect.
The Effects tab lists all effects, allowing you to delete any effect from the list.
